I’ll start with my exciting news. The blog is coming from a new location! Over this past weekend I made the move and created a new website, www.SelmaPVerde.com. I am feeling good about the progress so far, but please bear with me as things are still coming together with the site.

After last week’s unplanned post about my first author interview, I am going to get back to my plan for the new year, book reviews. My main focus will be to review middle grade and young adult books. It is the audience I am writing for and I want to provide parents, teachers and librarians with some ideas of books I consider good reads for these age groups.

I am excited to be starting off 2018 with a review of the second book in the Seventh Dimension series called The King by Lorilyn Roberts.

Background

This is the second book in a series of five in the Seventh Dimension series. It is a young adult fantasy story with a Christian focus. This book is the winner of many awards including being a Silver winner in the 2015 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards for YA and a finalist (fifth) in the 2015 Best Indie Book Award for YA fiction.

Summary of the story

Daniel is a teenager who lives in current day Israel. While caught up in the war in his country, he travels back through the seventh dimension to first century Israel in the time when Rome ruled the land. He has many adventures throughout the story and battles both good and evil to find his place in his own life and on his path with God.

Reactions to the story

I liked the book. The story was very engaging and while I read it, I felt like I was in that time period. It is the second book in a series but could be read as a stand alone. Having read book one, I did like how Roberts brought the storyline line from the first book into this one. Even with the christian flavor and references to stories of the bible, I believe the book could be enjoyed by a young adult reader who enjoys a good coming of age story.
